Located in one of Canberra’s most prestigious neighbourhoods – Red Hill – The Parks development is proposed to be a village-style project comprising both apartments and townhouse-style dwellings.
A total of 144 apartments split across two separate sites surrounding the Lady Nelson public park. Each site comprises three residential blocks located above a common two storey basement carpark.
The sloping site and tight footprint presented unique architectural challenges resulting in creative fire engineered solutions. Lit Consulting were involved from the preliminary DA phase through to construction and practical completion. Complex, innovative fire strategies were developed for aspects including egress, fire services and construction methods and materials.
Working closely with the structural engineer, a lightweight structural design for the top storeys was developed, which reduced overall weight and introduced construction efficiencies without compromising on fire safety.
The project is due for completion in 2022.
